This is a demonstration painting my friend David Luce did at his artist-at-work painting demonstration at the Getty Center here in Los Angeles. It is an oil study of the painter Oudry’s leopard. A pretty AMAZING study I must say.

Hello Everyone,

I am posting this from a computer in my hotel lobby in beautiful Kauai because the hotel wireless network has been down for a couple of days. I’m here because my old Teacher’s Assistant, Drawing Club Assistant and Drawing Club participant Ronald Kurniawan got married to his long time Girlfriend Ronellia here Saturday. The wedding was beautiful and I couldn’t be more happy for them. I’ll post some pictures when I get back.

I just checked the posts in the blog and it looks like you guys had a GREAT session while I was gone. I want to thank Forrest and Mike for running things in my absence. Good job updating the blog Forrest!

I fly out on the red eye tonight, so the weekly email will go out as soon as I get back to my computer Tuesday morning.

Digital Practice Painting

Hey Everyone,
Walt Disney Feature Animation has asked me to design a digital painting class for their artists. This is a VERY humbling proposition because some incredible digital artists already work there and I am by no means a digital expert. They reasured me that what they want to see is how a painting instructor versed in traditional media translates this to digital media like photoshop. The artists will then take this and apply it to their own projects.
This piece is one of my first attempts at doing a “Painting” in photoshop. I started with a scan of a burnt sienna toned board then tried to simulate the same steps I have taught in oil, gouache and acrylic for years. My overall impression of digital painting is that it’s fun!
